I agree that the best introduction to Kelly's fantastic strip is to go straight to the source.<br /><br />I tried to do my best to chart the complexity of his work and career across a number of different mediums and through some controversial territory (in particular regarding issues of race). Perhaps it's a bit too pendantic for fans looking to simply enjoy the strip in all its freshness. (But maybe other audiences interested in the history of satire and comics--and their place in American culture--will find it interesting.)<br /><br />Thanks for giving it a shot.
