Unforgiven (Best Picture 1992)

Unforgiven begins with something like an epilogue. We learn that the outlaw William Munny's wife was a God-fearing Christian woman but has died, leaving him alone with their two children. Munny was supposedly a notorious gun-slinger, and his wife's mother did not understand what her daughter saw in him.

The Silence of the Lambs (Best Picture 1991)

The Silence of the Lambs starts innocently enough, with Clarice Starling training at what we soon learn is the FBI Academy. During her work-out she is called-in by an instructor, and has to maneuver through another maze to get to his office.

Dances With Wolves (Best Picture 1990)

Dances With Wolves is one of the films I like to watch when I take the time to watch it. I think I've seen it four or five times. I would watch it more, but it is so long that it takes a definite commitment to sit through. If you do make that commitment, though, you are rewarded with a unique and beautiful Western.

Driving Miss Daisy (Best Picture 1989)

From the very first scene of Driving Miss Daisy we know we are in for something amusing. Daisy Werthan, an independent and somewhat unpleasant widow, attempts to drive herself to the store. However, she backs her car into the neighbor's yard instead, blaming the car.

Rain Man (Best Picture 1988)

Although Dustin Hoffman won Best Actor for his role as Raymond "Rain Man" Babbitt, this film is actually all about the journey of the younger brother, Charlie.
