Happy Birthday, Washington State!

Today is the anniversary of Washington being admitted to our United States of America.

Date of Admittance:November 11, 1889

Parentage: The state of Washington is the only state that is named after an American. While I can appreciate the idea of honoring our first President, I think it is odd that  a state he had nothing to do with is named after him. The state had been part of the territory ceded to the US in 1846 by Great Britain, who borrowed it from the Native Americans and then never gave it back.
