Happy Birthday, Nebraska!

Today is the anniversary of Nebraska being admitted to our United States of America.
Date of Admittance: March 1, 1867
Parentage:
The name is said to be based on the Oto word "nebrathka,"
which means "flat water," referring to Platte River.
Place in the Family
Number 37
Nebraska was admitted after Nevada (Oct 1864)
and before Colorado (August 1876).
Motto
"Equality Before the Law"
Nebraska was admitted as a state after the Civil War. I'm guessing their motto had something to do with that.

Nick-Name
The Corn-Husker State
Is this something to be proud of, really?
Don't we ALL husk our corn before we eat it?
What did we do before NE joined the Union?
