Abraham Lincoln
2-12-1809~4-15-1865
One hundred and forthy seven years ago today, the United States lost one of our greatest presidents ever. We can argue that he was a semi-dictator (suspending habeas corpus, expanding presidential powers, etc) but the point is that he ruled with compassion. His Gettysburg Address is still one of the greatest oratories in our nation's history. We can discuss whether the Confederate States of America had the legal right to secede in 1861, but we can't argue that today, the UNITED States is the most powerful country in the world. And that is due, in large part, to the actions of this man. Photo is by Alexander Gardner circa 1864.
