Happy Birthday, Colorado!

Today is the anniversary of Colorado being admitted to our United States of America.

Date of Admittance:
August 1, 1876

Parentage: The word "colorado" is Spanish for "colored red," a reference to the Colorado River. The area was named after the river.

Motto
"Nothing Without Providence"
because most native Coloradoans came from Rhode Island?

The Centennial State
This is because Colorado joined the Union the same year

State Flag
One white bar between two blue bars
a red "C" around the sun
The white represents the snowy mountains
The blue represents the sky
The "C" is red because of the name
"colored red"
