Happy Birthday, John & Loni!

Yesterday Aug 3 was the birthday of John C. McGinley.
Tomorrow Aug 5 is the birthday of Loni Anderson.

John C. McGinley is most famous in these parts for his role as Dr. Perry Cox on Scrubs (2001-2010). Loni Anderson is most famous for her role as Jennifer Marlowe on WKRP in Cincinnati (1978-1982). In a perfect world, these two great actors would be guest-stars on each other's shows.

McGinley burst on to the Hollywood scene in Platoon (1986). He appeared in many films between that and his first "break-out" role on Office Space (1999). He then took the pivotal role of Dr. Cox on Scrubs. It was his job to be equally believable as a mentor, a humanitarian, and a flawed man while also being funny. Although there are episodes where Cox is definitely an ass, in general McGinley pulled off his role wonderfully.

Since Scrubs ended McGinley  continues to do TV, film, and voice-over work. He's a huge Detroit Red Wings fan, but I don't hold that against him.

Happy 56th Birthday, John C. McGinley!

Anderson is most famous for her role from WKRP, but she also starred in such famous (and/or infamous) things as The Jayne Mansfield Story (with Arnold Schwarzenegger, in 1980), Stroker Ace (with future husband Burt Reynolds, in 1983), and Partners in Crime (with Lynda Carter, in 1984).

Loni Anderson is a versatile actress who never got the recognition or break-out role that she deserved. While doing WKRP she handled everything from high comedy that verged on slapstick to heavy drama. Now that WKRP has finally been released on DVD, please go and hunt down a few episodes. I especially recommend two 4th season episodes, "Who's On First?" and "Jennifer And The Will." Loni Anderson was absolutely "not just another pretty face."

Happy 69th Birthday, Loni Anderson!
