RIP Buddy Holly & Friends

On February 3, 1959 the small plane piloted by Roger Peterson carrying Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens crashed in the snow-covered fields in Clear Lake, Iowa a few miles from the Mason City airport. There were no survivors.
This day has been immortalized by Don McLean in the song "American Pie." Thanks in large part to that song, this tragedy is now popularly referred to as "the day the music died."
