Happy Birthday, Wyoming!

Today is the anniversary of Wyoming being admitted to our United States of America.

Date of Admittance:
July 10, 1890

Parentage:
The word "wyoming" is based a Native American word
meche-weami-ing meaning "on the great plain."
The territory was stolen acquired from the Native Americans.

Place in the Family
Number 44
By this point the only states
left were in the West.
Wyoming comes between
Idaho (last week, July 3, 1890)
and Utah (Jan 1896)

Motto
"Equal Rights"
This is nice, I guess....

Nick-Name
The Equality State
Because Wyoming was the first state to
allow women to vote, in 1869.

A bucking buckaroo

State Flag
A red and white banner around a blue field
with the state seal in the center
of a white silhouette of a buffalo.
I think this is one of my favorite state flags.
It's simple and elegant...and features
a buffalo. Come on, what more
do you want?

First City You Probably Think of

Are there cities in Wyoming?

Actual State Capital:Cheyenne

State Size (Area) is 10th of 50.
Population is closer to 50th of 50.
(per 2000 Census figures)
In other words, fewer people live in Wyoming
than do in Rhode Island. Think about that for a minute!

Wyoming Sports:
There are no professional sports teams in
Wyoming. I mean, besides Cow Punching
and Rodeo-ing.
The Cheyenne Frontier Day
is the biggest rodeo in the US

A rodeo-man is willing to give up his travelling life
